What's up with the Love Song during Ken's flashback over Ryu

The early Street Fighter II V anime was also kinda ambiguosly gay, lol same director?

When Ken is driving with his girlfriend he just all of a sudden remembers Ryu and him as kids running in the forest and during the whole scene in the Japanese version this very odd love song pops up, was the audience supposed to believe there's something more to their friendship in the original version? The American one makes a more buddy relationship clear while the Japanese version makes Ken and Ryu a little to close at times haha, but whatever floats their boat, I mean we never really know what happens after the Bison (Vega) fight now do we and Ryu rejecting Ken's ride offer with his gf may have been over jealousy, lol.

OK joking aside anyone else really see the flashback scene as weird?

I agree. In the japanese version the score creates an overall unfitting mood, which goes from cheesy to hilarious. and yes, now as you say it, the "heart warming" melody really does make the scene appear a bit gay.
but this is also due to a general tendency in japanese media. they are more... open. in the sf2 v series there is one scene, where ryu and ken are swimming alone in a pool in a penthouse. and while ryu is in the water, ken is standing at the side, getting fully naked, posing for a second (with front to ryu), just to jump right upon ryu...
completely gay.
and in another scene, while they spar a bit for fun, the training turns to ground fighting. then, out of a sudden, ken grabs ryu's pants and pulls it down, exposing ryu's underwear. the scene fades away then, and you hear them laughing and stuff.
hahaha!!!

My thoughts EXACTLY . And I've stated this many times on this board . The Japanese version is just way too pop-ish for Street Fighter .

yeah, "pop-ish" is a well fitting term. Esppecially J-Pop and martial arts is a no go in my opinion.

There's more in the movie that hints at a gay relationship between ryu and ken. When Ken is talking to his girlfriend about marriage (which comes up totally out of the blue), and she says no, he has a flashback of Ken saving his life when he nearly falls from a cliff. When he drops his girlfriend off, he says something like: Ryu, I'm tired of waiting.

Gosh guys...they're just good, longtime friends. Bro's before Ho's.

I always took the "I'm getting tired of waiting" line as Ken getting tired of waiting to fight Ryu to determine who the better fighter is. Just look at what Ken says when he's fighting T. Hawk:
"Nobody alive has been good enough to beat me yet. Except Ryu."
And also at the end when Ken tells Ryu "Next time around, we've got an old score to settle."
