Devastated by his death. R.I.P Alan and all sympathies to Rima, the rest of his family and his friends.
He is so good as Brandon in this, capturing his gentle nature and his goodness so well. He looks pretty sexy too!
Go to bed Frank or this is going to get ugly .
RIP Alan.
shareI was very saddened to hear of Alan Rickman's passing. He was an amazing actor, with such a lovely distinctive voice. He will always be "My Col. Brandon". Prayers to his loved ones.
shareRIP, Alan Rickman.
shareHow do you know he was a compassionate human being? Did you know him?
shareOne family who has experienced Mr Rickman's compassion as well as bravery is that of the late Rachel Corrie. Alan honoured the extraordinary life and courage of the young woman who lost her life to a brutal bulldozer attack while she was attempting to defend Palestinian rights. Israel has evaded any criminal charges brought forward by the family due to its existence in an alternate reality where crimes are not punished. Mr Rickman directed the play "My Name is Rachel Corrie" and treated her parents with great dignity. He said that he never felt prouder than when he showed her parents Rachel's name in lights on the marquee. Here is a recent quote by Rachel's father:
"My family and I were saddened on Thursday morning to learn of the death of Alan Rickman – too sad to write our feelings at the time. Alan, of course, is famous as an actor and director, both on stage and in film. But we first came to know him when, with Katharine Viner (now editor-in-chief of the Guardian), he edited our daughter Rachel’s writing into the play My Name is Rachel Corrie. The care Alan took for our family, his courage to take on this particular project and, most of all, the respect he showed for Rachel and her writing, impress me still as truly extraordinary."
Sense and Sensibility will be screened at the Berlinale this month to honor his memory. A very nice tribute! In interviews he often pointed to his role as Colonel Brandon to prove he did not always play villains, and S and S won an award at Berlin--it is fitting all around.
May he rest peacefully.
