I thought the ending was kinda flat

Disturbing doesn't make up for a lack of cleverness. It kept building and building like everything was going to come together perfectly and it just kinda flat lined.

I think its a clever end.

How so?

You are sin.

The ending relies on Mills being a complete idiot.

I completely agree.. I was so into the movie and the intensity of the final scene but was left unsatisfied. Some how it became anti-climatic after being super climatic.

reply

You touched on something with the super-climactic comment, I think because the film is constantly turned up to 11 all the way through, that there's really no way the ending was going to be able to top what had transpired. In a way, the writer wrote himself into a corner by opting for a big reveal that wasn't altogether that impressive after what felt like such momentum and build up.

Mills was Doe's final endgame, what was anti-climatic about it? It served it's purpose fine.

Yes

C'mon. "What's in the box?!" Is as classic a line as it gets.

IMHO the drive to the big reveal is too long. Too much buildup ends up killing it.
But hey what do I know, millions of people loved this movie, so...

On the contrary, it’s a great ending because it’s so twistedly bleak, the villain ‘wins’ and you’re left to process just how sick his plan was, and what will become of Pitt.

Those incapable of such contemplation, and in need of more action and mediocrity, might find it underwhelming though.

I thought the ending was perfect.

reply

Uh, it did come together perfectly. It just didn't turn out the way you wanted it to..... Se7en isn't for everybody.
