Why is this so underrated?
I don't get it. I loved the whole story, the special effects, the atmosphere, the tension in some of the scenes. Ok the acting isn't always that great but overal I feel this is worth 7/10 atleast!

shareThe special effects are bumpy in spots but they're forgivable. The acting is generally good, especially from Peter Weller, who owns this movie. The atmosphere is perfect and Normand Corbeil's score both sounds good on its own and provides excellent support for the action and tension. This is one of my favorite SF B-movies and I gave it a 9 for its general success in doing what it aims to do.
It's one of a handful of movies I can pop into the DVD player and rewatch any time. Actually, I like it for a lot of the same reasons I like The Thing, which is one of the all-time greatest SF-horror films (I rated it at 10/10 and it's another of my watchable-anytimes).

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
It's an enjoyable mix of sci-fi, action, and horror. But it does have its shortcomings. Some of the f/x are of dodgy quality at best (but the matte paintings are first-rate), some of the acting is on the weaker side, and the ending was just lame.
Overall, though, a very entertaining and mostly solid film. Good sci-fi/action/horror is a rarity these days. The last great one was probably Pitch Black.
I gave it 7/10 also, which is what the plurality of voters gave it. I don't think the performances were weak at all, and special effects don't impress me when they're good or upset me when they're bad. This is a solid story with impressive art direction, and it maintained my attention for 90 minutes – something most sci-fi films fail to do.
shareI liked it. 9/10

I know what you mean, but I think 6.1 is not too bad for a sci-fi movie in imdb.
shareThe first act is pretty good, the second is a little better, and finally the third act is just downright bad. I was impressed with the sets most of all, some of the best I have seen from a B-rate sci-fi flick.
shareIt's a good movie
shareIt's quite a niche movie I think, sci-fi horror with a multi-layered story. It's one of my favourite movies no doubt, the reason is the world it presents, it is sort of low budget but there's enough there for you to imagine how the rest of it goes. If you have a good imagination you'll enjoy this flick..
shareMuch better than the trio of Phantom Menace movies.
