Man oh man, is this season hard to get through. I really enjoyed the manga that this arc was based on...but thus far, I am having a really hard time embracing the season. ChibiUsa never bothered me in print, or even in the previous 2 seasons she was in...but watching these Chibi-heavy episodes are anathema to me. "Twinkle Yell"...? And now she shares transformation scenes with Usagi...? The way she treats Usagi this season in particular makes her very unlikeable. And what's up with the remaining 4 senshi and Mamoru being little more than window dressing in this season...? The only saving grace in the SM:SS anime, in my opinion, is the music used for the Dead Moon Circus. Otherwise...watching this season on DVD is going to be a true test of my fanhood :/ Any one else feel this way...?

Nah. I enjoyed it and it flows smoothly for my taste. Fisheye is a genius character. The animation is probably the best in the show. Chibiusa was annoying in R, but was more humble and thus more sympathetic in S and SuperS. The dreamy mood is spot-on. And some episodes are classics (Minako going out on two dates at the same time). You are in the majority who don't like this season, but I cannot help but not care and simply enjoy it as a minority.
"And some episodes are classics (Minako going out on two dates at the same time)."
Just watched that episode yesterday. I agree - one of the best episodes of SM I have seen yet - a rare highlight episode for Minako; and I loved the alternate view of her character - her psycho, defiant laugh was awesome!
"The animation is probably the best in the show"
Gotta give that to you. SM had exceptionally high animation standards as it is for a 90's show, and SM:SS is definitely a highlight.
"Fisheye is a genius character"
I love all 3 of those guys! Very hilarious, and I enjoyed the episode where Fisheye manipulated the fashion designer - it showed a sinister aspect of his character that isn't immediately perceptible.
"The dreamy mood is spot-on"
Yeah, it fits with the whole theme of the story; it just seemed like the manga it was based on was a little bit darker. But then, after the dark climax of Sailor Moon R, perhaps a lighter themed season helped maintain balance.
I don't "hate" SM:SS, and perhaps my initial post was a tad harsh. I just dislike the changes made to ChibiUsa's character in the anime - particularly her treatment of Usagi; and I didn't like how the other senshi and Mamoru are all but pushed aside. But then again, I did see the Minako episode yesterday, as well as the one where the senshi received a power upgrade from Pegasus, so perhaps the best is to come! Thanks for your reply - a pleasure chatting with you.

The SuperS manga was better, I will give you that, but I like the anime version, too. They decided to take a dreamy mood approach with it, thus making this season the most abstract of them all.
Granted, the follow-up Amazon Quartet is not on pair with the Amazon Trio, but even they have their moments. And even if you won't like it, there are still Sailor Stars, the last season - and my favorite.
What I am surprised to hear - and pleased - is that someone is still watching this season for the first time, in 2013. (i.e., not old fans, but new fans who are new to "Sailor Moon"). It's nice to find out that this anime is still remembered.
Thanks, my friend! I am actually a fan from "back in the day" of sorts... I remember in the early to mid 90 's, reading about Sailor Moon and other imported anime (we called it Japanimation back then) like Ghost in the Shell and Akira in magazines like Wizard, O/verstreet's Fan, and Hero. This was back when, in order to watch most anime, you had to plunk down $60 for a VHS with 2-4 episodes, or swap taped with other enthusiasts. I enjoyed Akira & GitS, and remember reading in Fan how Queen Beryl was supposedly the "hard to find" figure in the Sailor Moon assortment, and therefore worth picking up. The Target where I live had just clearanced out their Sailor Moon assortment, so I scored Beryl & Usagi at the same time. Roughly about the same time, a quarterly periodical began appearing called Mixx Zine. It was an anthology title; and it's 1st incarnation had reprints of Sailor Moon, Rayearth, Parasite, and some other title I have since forgotten. Needless to say, SM had me hooked, and I was soon watching the DiC episodes on Cartoon Network as regularly as I could, having no idea at the time the scope of the larger story I was missing out on. Life continues, as it has a way of doing, and I got married back in 2007. As I was unpacking all of my belongings, I stumbled across my long-forgotten Beryl and Usagi toys, and was awash in a wave of nostalgia. Long story short, since that time, my Bandai collection has grown to include the remaining inner senshi (the outers nigh impossible to locate), and I tracked down the manga and devoured it. I scored a decently priced set of the DVDs last year, and have been thoroughly enjoying becoming reacquainted with Sailor Moon. In many ways, seeing the story as it was intended to be told for the 1st time, it does indeed feel like the 1st time! And I can't WAIT to finish Super S and get into Stars. Based on what I have heard, it will be the most exciting season yet! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for hearing me out!

This is great. I can sense the excitement from your text. You are a very unusual exception, since you already saw the (incomplete) English dub, just to see the original 10 years later. Kind of like saving yourself a special treat for later. And yeah, Stars is in my opinion the grand finale of the anime.

I agree! My notions of what Sailor Moon was in the 90's has changed completely by immersing myself further into the mythos - I will never forget how shocked and moved I was by the 2 part finale for season 1. Not at all what somebody would expect if they only knew of SM through the DiC dubs. Never had a cartoon that was ostensibly aimed at teens make me feel such a cavalcade of emotions before - I tear up at least once a season. Very good stuff, and from what I have heard and from what you have said, I am very excited for Stars. The new forthcoming (?) anime has a lot to live up to.
