Adapting a live action movie part IV - Composers and Original Songs

As a part of a regular series, we are going to discuss what it would take to make a successful live action adaptation of Sailor Moon including character changes, casts, languages, nationalitys, ethnicities, music, composers, etc;

For this edition of adapting a live action movie, we will discuss which composers you would like to write the score for Sailor Moon as well as any bands that you think would produce a great song for the soundtrack to Sailor Moon. Post an example of both the composer's work and the band's work to show us why you think they're great.

This is something I think about a lot because a lot of the original Japanese series was scored with classical tracks (there's a lot of Toccata and Fugue, for example). I don't want it to have a traditional bombastic "superhero" score, and I'd like it to retain some of the fun of the original series. So no Hans Zimmer or John Williams or Michael Giacchino for this one. I'd also like a few nods to some of the original themes, or even some of the DiC themes. ALL the henshin songs should be the same.

I'd also like some of the better original Japanese songs used for background music. "Ai No Senshi" is jut a great battle song. So I think I'd want a score that was part J-pop and existing Sailor Moon material, and part new score.

If we were to use a new band to record songs for the movie, no question: SHONEN KNIFE. They're an all-girl Japanese grunge/punk band. Back in the '90s, they opened for Nirvana. Their songs have a weird sense of humor, and they do a lot of songs about food (which is great for Usagi) Here's some examples of their stuff:

Cookie Day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGa5DVBgCFE My favorite food song

Buttercup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7ZFeViTl4g This is their PowerPuff Girls song. Which would actually work for Sailor Moon too.

I could post Shonen Knife songs all day though, so I'll let that be it.

I certainly have no problem with Shonen Knife, and I feel that Moonlight Densetsu should be retained. Other than that, I have not much opinion on music for any hypothetical American or Canadian or British Sailor Moon movie.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler.
