Adapting a live action movie Part III - Colored hair?

As a part of a regular series, we are going to discuss what it would take to make a successful live action adaptation of Sailor Moon including character changes, casts, languages, nationalitys, ethnicities, music, composers, etc;

Should a live action film include the original hair color of characters like Sailor Mercury and Sailor Neptune? If yes, show us some sources that will put the nay-sayers at rest displaying successfully beautiful hair that is colored non-traditionally. For those that disagree and think the hair color should be far more traditional, what color would you give to the characters with non-traditional hair?

Immediately my gut wants to say of course they should, but I'm not entirely certain on this. The blondes and brunettes are easy, but the odd colored ones... For example, I'd hate for Chibi-Usa not to have pink hair. And girls do dye their hair crazy colors these days... but a girl that young?

Likewise, Ami is just not the sort of girl who would dye her hair. I think we have to just leave her a dark brunette. Maybe she gets some colored highlights only when she's Sailor Mercury?

I have mixed feelings about Michiru, but maybe she should have her green hair. If an audience can buy Ramona Flowers' changing hair, they can buy that a hot artsy lesbian would color her hair. It might depend on how it looks on the actress cast.

Chibi-usa should at least be a redhead.

The live-action series had them with brown or black hair, and it only became yellow or blue and such when in Senshi form. I'd be fine with that, but I'd want them to do a better job than that show did.

Yeah, Ami-chan isn't the "I think I'll dye my hair a weird color" sort. So if she has blue hair when a schoolgirl (as opposed to when she's a superhero), she has to be a natural... um... blue-nette. And THAT means that other people, extras and such, have to have blue and green and pink hair. Which again is fine with me, if it's done well. It would sure make it clear that "this is not our world."

I've never seen the liveaction version but this idea about changing haircolor during transformation is amazing to me! I can't believe I never thought about it before since it absolutely makes sense. It's magic basically and the senshi form represents a more historical depiction of the princess and warrior, just in a modern form.

Awesome If I did a movie, I'd definitely use this idea.

Here's a video which shows it, somewhat. It isn't that good, but it show her before and after, and that's what's important.
