Adapting a live action Movie Part VI - Casting Well Knowns

From here on out, we are forgoing the usual text here.

The title of this thread isn't what you think it is. Well established 14-17 year old actors are uncommon in the industry and tend to come with a lot of baggage. There's also no guarantee that they are right for the role, so casting them would be both a headache, a gamble, and only for their star power.

In this thread we are going to avoid all of that! Here, we will cast the supporting characters in Sailor Moon who are usually older and easier to find an iconic actor to play. I will start with this list and anyone may feel free to add to it:

- Queen Serenity
- Luna (Mostly voice overs)
- Artemis (Mostly voice overs)
- Queen Barryl
- The Four Generals (Jedite, Nephlite, Zoycite, Mallikite)
- Serena's Mother and Father
- Mrs. Haruna
- Grandpa (Rei's Grandpa)

Please try not to add anyone who is the same age as the main cast, or younger (Like Sammy or Rini). Also, try to avoid casting others for future seasons (Like Prince Diamond, Emerald, Wise Man, etc;) as we are focusing on a live action movie for the first film.

I will actually take the reigns on this one because some cast members that I'm itching to see play these roles:

Queen Serenity - Charlize Theron http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000234/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Luna - Helena Bonham Carter http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000307/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Artemis - Colin Firth http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000147/?ref_=nv_sr_2
Jedite - Alex Ptyfer http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1641117/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Queen Barryl - Anne Hathaway http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004266/?ref_=rvi_nm

This is honestly not something I think much about, and even if they cast name people I wouldn't want them to be SUCH names. In terms of casting family members I would want them cast after the principle girls were cast first, and not just "hey, let's cast Charlize here." Charlize would be a fine Queen Serenity but for me it would depend on who was cast as Sailor Moon.

I do NOT want a British Luna. It never really made any sense in the English dub, and I feel like it would just stick out strangely in a live-action movie. If a famous person were cast to voice the cats, I don't want someone with SUCH a recognizable voice that it pulls me out of the movie. I don't want the Dreamworks version of Sailor Moon.

I think Hathaway's still to young for Queen Beryl.

What about Darien/Mamoru and Andrew (what was his original name? I forget)? Do they count as older?

Anyway, I think I don't want Sailor Moon to be too Harry Potter-esque with every adult played by someone well-known.

On a somewhat unrelated note, It's nice to see you answer your own questions here and there. I'd like to know your thoughts on the other topics you've posed.

I think Darien and Andrew are a bit young for the topic at hand because I actually like the Harry Potter approach to casting If you have someone in mind though, I'd love to hear them!

I also love your point about waiting to cast the family so that the principle actors will have both chemistry and some kind of identity with them. I think I would apply that to Darien, too. He HAS to look like he belongs in a relationship with the Serena actress or it's going to look really weird.

I can sort of see Zooey Deschanel as Miss Haruna.

I don't have a lot to say about this. I suspect you guys are right.

Actually, I think I will say something:
THANK YOU for making it clear that the girls should be played by real teenagers. I don't think that 25 or 30 is "old," but it is too old to be playing a high school girl (especially if she's BARELY a high school girl).

If they were going to make a movie they should try and keep the cast under 25,preferably 16-22,but if they were to find an actress that is 25 and looks young enough fine, but no older than that.
