I am so friggin excited that I had already chosen to make my first trip to Anime Expo this year and that I already have all the arrangements set up it was a total coincidence that they are going to be making all the announcements about Sailor Moon there. All I know is that I am gonna have to work extra hard to save up the lettuce to buy stuff.

This is the best news ever. As some people have been saying this is the year of Sailor Moon.
shareNorth American anime distributor Viz Media announced after its Anime Central panel on Friday that it licensed the original Sailor Moon magical girl anime franchise. The streaming, digital, and home video licenses include all 200 episodes from the five television series, the three feature films, and the assorted tie-in specials. This will include the first North American release of the final television series, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars.
Viz is offering the franchise without edits in its original uncropped 4:3 aspect ratio, with the original Japanese names, story elements, and relationships. It is also producing an uncut English dub with a new voice cast.
On one hand, I'll always have a place in my heart for the terrible DiC dub in all its messy awesomeness. The dub that got a generation of girls watching the show, and gave us new slang for breasts. But it's nice to have a new cohesive dub come about as well.
It's sooooo good to be able to get an official release of Sailor Stars. And that worst episode ever where Chibi-Usa befriends a dinosaur in a volcano (wasn't even on the Complete Season release).
If I hate the new dub, I'll be able to watch it subtitled. But a new dub at least also ensures new fans who don't like to read.

Just a note--there's a trailer up on Hulu--they're going to show the whole series on Hulu+, Sailor Moon, R, S, Super S, and Stars in sequence, one episode released every Monday starting this coming Monday May 19. It's not clear if they're going to be sub, dub, or if both will be available.
It will only be subbed. They wont even be revealing the choices for the dub cast until anime expo this july.

I don't know if I'll be able to adjust to a new dub. I remember quitting the show after Terri Hawkes left because I just could not get use to the new voice actress. Anyway am I the only one kind of bummed about losing the names Serena & Darien? I'm not a stranger to their Japanese names but their american names are the ones I grew up with, I feel so attached to that.
share Well I for one am going to approach this whole thing with caution. I understand how you feel. People can hate the Dic dub as far as edits and translations all they want but those actors really gave it their all and they did an amazing job with what they were given. I feel like Terri Hawkes and Susan Roman especially were just phenomenal and I don't feel like whatever Viz is going to give us can match that honestly. It doesn't help either that they went with L.A talent. I mean they will probably use bang zoom or something and I am not crazy about them. It was only a tiny sound bite that we got of Usagi but damn I did not care for it. Whoever she is she sounds too babyish for my taste. I know these choices were approved by Naoko but can she truly understand the subtle nuances of the English language and what makes an American voice actor sound good? People claim they think she sounds like Kotono Mitsuishi but she to me sounds more shrill than high pitched and I always liked that about her voice. I for one could not get on board with what Linda Ballantyne did with Usagi. It wasn't about her not being Terri either it's just that her voice was not suited to the character. The transition between Traci Moore and Terri Hawkes is smooth sometimes when I'm watching the Dic dub when I see the earlier episodes I forget that Terri was not their from the beginning because Traci Moore's interpretation of Sailor Moon while different is also very good. Linda's is not so great. It probably is not her fault because the character most likely is not in her range and they must have wanted her to do an impression of Terri but it was not a good one. Can't blame a girl for getting payed though. I think it is going to be odd hearing the original names coming from English speaking actors the two always seemed like their own entities and it will be odd. I for one think it will be strange to hear American voice actors try to pronounce the names casually without it sounding odd or forced. I am totally going buy it whether I like the new dub or not I am just wish they had the right to re-release the original dub. It doesn't seem likely or fair that we don't get to have it. There is money in nostalgia. I mean how many different times has Funimation sold Dragonball Z? I mean somebody bought those funky Rock the Dragon Sets even though they looked like *beep*

I love Terri as Sailor Moon so it might take me awhile to get use to the new voice at least it doesn't sound like nails on a chalk board like Linda's did. The only thing I really want is Susan back I can't imagine anyone else in the role of Sailor Jupiter and the fact that she is the only one to play the role from start to finish just makes it even more special. So please VIZ at least let her be Jupiter.

Watching it right now! I just wish they'd release more than two episodes a week because the first season/arc is definitely my least favorite one but it is also the longest. Feels like it'll take forever to get to my favorite characters.
