Just wanted to clarify this since it popped into my head.
Are Sailor Moon and the people of the Moon Kingdom supposed to be humans or are they literally from other planets? Is there a bigger history to the Moon Kingdom that you know of? Links?

It's a mix of between I think. The major five Senshi (Moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter) and two supporting Senshi (Chibiusa, Saturn) are aliens who died and were reincarnated as aliens. The others are actual alien beings.

Technically yes they are aliens.Prince Endymion/Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru/Darien,Queen Beryl and The Four Kings of Heaven are the only ones that are humans.
shareI think the idea is that they were all humans, but not terrans. Life developed on some world (maybe Earth?) and then some of them had magical powers they used to settle on other worlds with the Lunar people as the strongest.

Alien to our planet? Yes. But, "aliens" in the implied sense? No.
The only beings originally of Earth itself are Prince Endymion, his court, Queen Beryl, ect. Queen and Princess Serenity, their court, Luna and Artemis are native to their respective celestial bodies. They are ALL homo sapiens (sans Luna and Artemis) but not terra homo sapien. Humans but not necessarily Earth humans.
After reincarnation, however, all the Senshi/Scouts are of Earth as they were reborn here. Only Pluto, I believe, remained un-reincarnated.
