It took a few episodes to get used to, but once Ami's episode ended the voices felt authentic. I know a lot of people who grew up on the Dic/Cloverway version are set in stone with what the cast should sounds like, but give this one a chance. It follows the original script almost to the T.

shareI can't say that I like it at all. Didn't see much of it but didn't feel I needed to as most of the really good eps are later on and I wasn't inspired to relive the show with the new voice actors. I was debating whether or not to still pre-order the blu-ray boxset but with them adding the episodes on Hulu I think I have settled on not. Maybe if they impress me with their Jupiter and Venus I will think about giving the show another chance but for now I don't like it.

I can't believe this is the same company behind the Death Note dub doing the dubbing, because it is that f-ing bad.
My problem with the new actors is they sound stiff and like they are totally acting you just don't forget that it's not real. I liked the fact that the original English dub actors were all using their normal voices it didn't sound unnatural like anyone was doing voices. I mean Usagi's baby voice is probably more spiritually true to the originally but it sounds soo fake. I enjoy Kotono Mitsubishi doing the voice but not Stephanie Sheh.

This is kinda why I still prefer Terri Hawke over Stephanie Sheh. She didn't try to imitate the Japanese high pitch. She gave Usagi / Serena her own voice that sounded more natural and normal in English. And she also put so much passion and energy into it too. And she cried better than Stephanie when Mamoru / Darien broke up with her in that one episode.

I am so glad to see I am not alone in this. People say they like Stephanie Sheh because she sounds closer to the Japanese voice, which I can totally understand, but thats not always a good thing in English dubs because it never really sounds quite normal. I'd rather English voice actors do their own thing if it sounds good and natural, rather than imitate the Japanese high pitch voice.

Agreed, I much prefer the new dub. I don't remember any of the other voices from the old dub except Serena and her voice grated on my nerves severely! Like nails on a chalkboard! I don't see how anyone could prefer the old dub but that's just me. I will say I do prefer the character names from the old dub, especially Serena which sounds much prettier than Usagi, lol.

I tried giving Sailor Moon Crystal a try and I lasted through the first arc, but it's so watered down, the art isn't great, and I was really fed up that the other sailor scouts can't have their own lives and everything has to revolve around Serena. They were much more interesting in the original anime adaptation and I'm usually someone that gets more attached to the supporting characters (ie: I preferred Sasuke to Naruto; Vegeta to Goku, etc.)
I will say I do prefer the character names from the old dub, especially Serena which sounds much prettier than Usagi, lol.
I have seen a couple eps of the VIZ dub I like it so far,I love that they are using their actual names from the Manga and the voices go good with the characters,I am really glad that Usagi's friend Naru does not talk with a Jersey accent like she did in the Dic Dub and its just all around more faithful

Don't forget the DiC dub also randomly switched to calling it the Negaforce occasionally. Then there's the whole Silver Crystal/Silver Moon Crystal/Imperium Silver Crystal/Imperial Crystal/etc nonsense. How hard is it to stick to only calling it one thing?
As for me, I'm mostly just weirded out not hearing a ridiculous Brooklyn accent coming out of Molly/Naru and a random British accent from Luna. I'm only on episode one, but I'm still concerned about hearing Sailor Jupiter talk, since she was the only one who had the same voice actor throughout the entire of the DiC and Cloverway dubs. It'll be too weird hearing someone else voice her in English.
I also keep expecting to hear that sound effect that comes with the screen wipes from the first dub.
But the voices themselves are better than my "change is bad!" self was expecting.
