There’s no way someone could be that good a swordsman and not have had an officers training back then. Even a rich dandy with lots of spare time wouldn’t get to be that good.

That and I don’t think the redcoat uniform was for show. He could have been a Captain or a Major.

I always felt it to be abundantly clear that Archibald was at least at one point a professional soldier.

Rich families back then sent their sons to military academies, it was their way of making them learn about the real world. And Archie was just really talented too.
