Simply a better movie than Braveheart. But Braveheart got so much more buzz.

Acting, writing, production values... this is far ahead of Braveheart on pretty-much every level. In terms of historical accuracy, however, neither film even tries.

No way, Rob Roy is an also-ran at best. It’s a solid period action-drama, but Braveheart was revolutionary in its enormous gory battle scenes (which paved the way for Saving Private Ryan) and rejuvenation of the great historical epic.
