A child psychiatrist who hates children?

That doesn't make any sense: if Hugh Grant's character hates children then why would he go into a field where he has to work with children?

I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.

he most likely hates children as a result of the ones hes had to treat

Exactly. I'm sure "my dad's an *beep* didn't make him leap at wanting to have children.

He probably got into the profession because he cared about children. Once he was in, though, it was only the disfunctional ones he came in contact with because they're the ones who need therapy. It's easy to see why that would make a person not want to have kids.

Not to mention you can LIKE kids but that doesn't mean you want to be a full time parent for the rest of your life.

...and not to mention he's a psychologist, not a psychiatrist.

Who said he hates children? He didn't want to be a father - that doesn't mean he hates children. Right before he found out Rebecca was pregnant, he was talking about how one of his patient's parents had screwed him up, and how horrible it is that people who shouldn't become parents do anyway, and mess children up for life. That's not someone who hates kids at all - that speech just shows that he believed that only people who are properly equipped to have children should.
