My problem with the Depp character

He seems incredibly clueless. His daughter's life is in danger and he in the ultimate lose-lose situation but he thinks it would be a good idea to try to get help from a taxi driver and a shoeshine man? Give me a break! I bailed out after about 15 minutes so this is not a valid review, just an impression. His little girl was cute as a button though.

Excuse me for talking while you're interrupting.

Have you even seen Red Eye, Firewall, Butterfly on a Wheel and Trapped?

You must've hated those too.

That's how hostage-oriented thriller films tend to be like. The protagonist always tries to find a way to get out of the situation by doing 'stupid' things (a la, telling someone, giving signals) that, of course, put his loved one(s) lives in jeopardy. Even in the series Hostages, Toni Collette was doing that. It gives us good suspense. If Depp hadn't have done that then the movie would've been without suspense and rather monotonic.

Anyway I gave the film a 6/10.

Life is like a beautiful melody, only the lyrics are messed up.

He should have just shot the lady in the car in the face when he had the drop on her. No way she hits the kid through the car seat as she's dying.

I think it's fair to say most people would try to find help in any way and from anywhere they could. It's not like he could call the police or even some friends to brainstorm on what to do in that situation. He was forced into a position to make rapid fire decisions knowing his child's life was jeopardy - not the most relaxing scenario on the planet.

I didn't think it was a great movie, primarily for other reasons. But what else is the guy going to do? He has less than 90 minutes to save his daughter. Perhaps you didn't watch far enough in, to see he also sought assistance from the governor's PA and husband.🐭

Walken's character was clueless. He was on video like 15 times talking to Depp. Did he not think there would be an investigation?
