That brand of Hip Hop in 1995 was unbelievably hot, man. Those post P-funk hard beats were almost all real slow with a strong bass and synthesizers and electric pianos playing real minimal and spooky joints. There were so many dope rappers the list is endless. Yo MTV was finished so the days of Marley Marl and Big Daddy Kane type of hip hop was already gone. Wu Tang was waiting in the wings. But this movie had the dopest soundtrack, though, It's pre Nas. He came next. So this was before the screamers like DMX or Sticky Fingaz, too. Back in the laid back days of Eric Sermon. Keith Murray, Method Man. Alot of great movie soundtracks, too, not to mention great black movies at last since black movies in the 70's were pretty stupid.
lol this was not pre-Nas or Onyx, Main Source's "Breaking Atoms" album featuring "Live At The Barbeque" with Nas on it came out in 1991 and Onyx's "Throw Ya Gunz" single came out in 1992. Wu-Tang's "36 Chambers" album came out in '93 and Nas' Illmatic album came out in '94. Also, EPMD had already been broken up by that point (they reunited in 97 though).
First of all, black films in the '70's were not all "stupid" as you claim--you obviously haven't seen enough of them to even say that---they were just as diverse and ranged in quality form good to bad, just like any other kinds of movies. And it was THOSE movies that paved the way for films like NEW JERSEY DRIVE and all the black films or the '90's,period. So bow down to the kings and queens of blaxploitation and give them some props, dang it! And, yeah, MENACE TO SOCIETY had a banging soundtrack (which I had at one time and lost--I really hate that happened!)
Where did I claim (as you ignorantly and falsely assert) that I said that "ALL BACK FILMS OF THE SEVENTIES WERE STUPID?"
Quote - "Alot of movies in the 70's were pretty stupid". These were the words you twisted, just to be arbitrary and perhaps to sound erudite.
Alot is not synonymous with all. As a matter of fact it conflicts with the definition since it allows for a bevy of contradictions.
As to your supercilious suggestion that I should "BOW DOWN to the kings and queens of blaxploitation, bow down yourself. By the way, how did you include "Menace to Society" in your haughty vilification of my post. a movie made in 1993 which is decades later? Did I criticize that film or its soundtrack, which I enjoy tremendously? How does your insertion of that tidbit resolve your paragraph? Please take issue with substance and when you do, press preview before you post and proofread your comments. What appears "obvious" to you (as you worded your diatribe) needs substantiation.
I wish they included the ambient jazz fusion pieces. I especially like the one when Jason is walking down the street he used to drive on and reflecting upon his missing friends.
