Why this movie was 'slept on'.

Most people agree this is an excellent movie that sails very close to reality - production values, acting - all good. Very under-rated. So what happened - why is it not a recognised classic?
Because it shows young black males in an extraordinarily bad light, regardless of the noble intentions of the film-makers. Even the so-called 'racist' white cop looks like a sympathetic character. After all what can you do with these uncontrollable criminal scum who display such treachery even to their friends and peers that you half expect them to try to rip themselves off at any moment, if it were possible.... No, some (probably white) 'Liberal' type didn't like what they saw.

The biggest problem as to of why this film was overlooked is mainly because by the time it was released Hollywood had pretty much shot its wad with the 'Hood' movie genre to the point of parody. Also, it was kind of lackluster in its storytelling and the characters werent really that admirable or apologetic for the things they did.

"Lemme at 'em! I'll splat 'em!"

Most realistic "Urban Drama" ( Hate Using That Term), that has ever hit the screen. The writing was PERFECT and Spike got real kids to play the roles. Its all very believable. When I was a teen, this and 'Kids' were really the only films I could ACTUALLY relate to.. Its a shame it only has 1,900 votes
