Hi, could anybody please tell me what Mr. Holland says to Rowena about singing Someone to Watch Over Me? When he's explaining what the song's about? It's one of my favorite songs and I don't have a copy of the movie. Thanks.

I just happened to be watching this on TV when I read your post. Thanks to the pause button on the remote, here you go!
Mr. Holland: I just want to ask you a question. What do you think the girl’s really feeling here?
Rowena: I don’t know.
Mr. Holland: You have to know, or you can’t sing it. This song is wistful, Miss Morgan. It’s about a woman who is alone in a very, very cold world, and all she wants more than anything is to have someone hold her close and to tell her that everything’s gonna be alright. It’s about the need for love in your gut.
(Incidentally, it's always been a favorite of mine, too. But, then, I love all Gershwin. Have you heard Linda Ronstadt's version on her recordings with Nelson Riddle's orchestra?)
