17 years later and I just saw this and agree. Soon as I saw the fancy decorations on the Starship I thought of the last act of 2001. I was hoping to get 3 space shows and we only got the one but I did still enjoy Stink bomb and Cannon Fodder.

The story reminded me much more of Solaris than 2001. Specially because of the way the singer plays with the memories of the blond guy.

Heintz in orbit around the rose in the final scene of the film reminded me of Kubrick's star child. Also- the chorus of voices when the satellite is "iced".

I also thought it reminded me more of Solaris than 2001.

It also reminded me alot of the original Alien, i think they even ripped a small sample from it, the computer noise. Some of the backgrounds look alot like Gigers artwork.

lol, yes very much like solaris.

With the ship you could have had Event Horizon and the horror aspect.

but it like Le Petit prince in terms of the Rose.
