Ok, I know this is an old post but I'll bite.

What did you find hard to grasp? And before you go off about that comment you DID put in the subject line that you found it incoherant ...

Try and explain what you didn't understand and I'll try to help you.

Completely incoherent

The first time it came on TV I watched the first 10 minutes and couldn't stand anymore. A few years later it came on and I sat down and watched it all the way through and liked it. I now own it on DVD. I usually don't like slasher/horror films so that may be why I actually like Lord of Illusions, it's atypical.

As someone said in another thread it's one of those movies you might like more on the 2nd viewing. That's how it was for me. The film eventually grew on me.

Other pluses to Lord of Illusions:
1. Excellent score/soundtrack
2. Good cinematography
3. Good foreshadowing and details, directing-wise from Barker

I would say give it another viewing or two and see if it grows on you.

It's a crime that so many people are seeing it for the first time on network or cable TV, all chopped up and edited, and then they usually air the theatrical cut (which Barker himself said was not his preferred version) and not the director's cut.

I like the movie because it's a bit high-minded. It's not jump-scare cheap horror like so much of the genre. The chills come in knowing what's going on, and seeing how far Nix's followers go to bring him back. In a way, this film has a real "Rosemary's Baby" vibe... It's casual and dark.

Milatchi,

I agree with your conclusion about Lord of Illusions and I still watch the film and try to see if I can gain any new insights that maybe I had glossed over previously.

Just like Clive Barker's books this film has timeless qualities as it's not a typical horror/thriller movie and I think it shows the skill of Clive Barker that he makes something that continues to inspire discussion.

I usually go to the cinema once a week and I have a hard time remembering what I see week-to-week, but I remember the first time I saw Lord of Illusions and how much it scared me, I remember the questions that I had when the film was over and I most certainly would have liked more...but Barker gave us what we have so I have to be happy.

I just watched this movie, and I can't believe anyone would think this movie is incoherent, it was incredibly easy to follow. Uhhh, maybe you need "Lord of Illusions: The big picture book."
