I don't care what anyone else says

This movie is definitely creepier than Hellraiser.
In my opinion, anyway. I guess I may have taken it as fact five years ago (Thu Mar 8 2007 17:54:37).

Well, the fact that it takes place here on Earth, rather than by some magical box that has to bring demons up from Hell to harrass us, could definitely give this movie a more creepier feeling. I mean, after all, who has never seen a magic show?

Both films are awesome. Hellraiser I saw as a kid when it first came out, so it's creepier for me because it was more shocking at the time. But... I think Lord of Ilusions is a better film overall. I love the noir aspect of it. Something that could be used in more horror film IMO.

Now that I think about it, I probably would have thought Hellraiser was creepier too if I saw it first.
What creeps me most about Lord of Illusions (and this confuses me as well) is the binding of the sorcerer with a mask that screws into his head and having him buried all those years before finally being resurrected and then losing a battle which sends him, presumably, to the lava pits of hell. I guess it's just eerie that way.

I think so too. It's Barker's best in my opinion and I DO know what I'm talking about being one of his biggest fans!

I agree with most of the comments on how Lord Of Illusions is a better film overall and has some very creepy and unsettling yet beautiful and haunting images in it. I saw Hellraiser first as a child and I agree...it was the scarier/more shocking film between that and Illusions...but looking at both films, both have a good level or terror and horror elements in both.

I always thought, the various cult members were even more creepy than Nyx.

Candy Man was interesting.

I liked this movie better too. Lord of Illusions was A LOT better than I thought it was going to be when I bought it the other day. I thought, hmmm...a horror movie with Scott Bakula, I'll get it. I was really impressed with the story, and being a big film noir fan, I loved the meshing of the genres. This is a very underrated movie.

I think it's about time I see these two movies back-to-back. Since Hellraiser came out first, I'll watch that one first.
