Dammit! What the hell did I find so funny all those years ago?!

When I first saw this movie about fifteen years ago, I was cracking jokes about it left and right. I've seen it at least three times since and I can't think of anything to make fun of it about, except maybe the hinted homoeroticism between Swann and Nix (and possibly Butterfield), but I wasn't clued into that back then.

"There is no escape, John!"

reply

Are you kidding me?
This movie was completely awful.
I could see someone laughing at the pointless plot or terrible acting easily!
I was just pissed I went out on a limb to watch this and ended up wasting two hours.

reply

No. I'm not kidding you.

"Wait, these people just waited there for 13 years? What did they EAT? What losers these people are. Get a life, you people." Said after it's revealed out of nowhere that the followers have spent 13 years just hanging out in that house waiting for - whatever.

they weren't though. there's a montage that shows them killing their families and returning to the house.

the levitation thing at the end did seem pretty bogus though.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

I thought it was great and didn't really find any of it funny. But I did read the source story, The Last Illusion, before seeing this in the theater. Keep in mind that Barker directed this himself, and much like the other films he has directed, he is not an actors director. He relies on his eye and the bizarre and gory situations to carry his material. This is not a perfect movie by any stretch and is probably my least favorite from the films he has directed. But, I found it to be an overall very fun film and I certainly never once bored.

"Wait, why did he have to levitate to do that?" This after D'Amour made a huge deal out of Swann levitating him so he could attack Nix and throw him into the pit. But, he didn't do anything special, he just sort of floated at him and beat him up physically. Couldn't he have just walked up to him and done that?

LOL I said the exact same thing last night. "WTF was that? Why didn't he just walk over there?"

I did get a good laugh out of the one cultist giving Nix the finger and a hearty "*beep* you!" while they were being swallowed by the ground.

The cult memebers were kind of funny. I was laughing at them one minute, but the overacting worked. They were scary, but funny as well. Someone like that approaches you on the street and you probably laugh. But they get too close to you, touch you, or something and sh!t gets real.
