The use of CGI has dated this badly
Although the not Barker's best effort, I quite like this film. It's a a horror with a noirish vibe like Angel Heart and there's not many movies that have tried this approach that I'm aware of.
Anyway, I do have one major criticism that almost took me out of the movie and that was the use of CGI effects in the house when (SPOILERS FOLLOW) a strange red spirit thing, who I believe is Nix appears and there's some terrible CGI thing floating about. It looks like it was created on hardware not much more advanced than a Playstation One. There are a few other weak uses of CGI too. It's a shame they didn't go practical for all FX and if necessary change the design of the effect of they couldn't achieve what they desired this way.
