Another reason why I love Steve Buscemi

I saw at least part of this film some years ago, as the wedding dress/apple/midget scene was familiar, but the rest of the film was all new to me. Borrowed this DVD from my local library because it looked "interesting", not knowing I had seen part of it before.

Funny! I have always been fascinated by the goings-on behind the camera on movie sets, and this film brought it to light. Sometimes I wonder how movies are made at all, with all the dynamics that are involved. You look at the long list of credits at the end of every film and yawn, but now I will think of this film.

Love Catherine Keener. Was this before or after Malkovich? I think she's a classy actress.

This only goes to show I like every movie Steve Buscemi is in. From Ghost World to Conair (cheesy!) to Big Lebowski...he is hands down my favorite actor in modern times - and usually with rather small roles. I'm stunned this film is from 1995 - I had no idea.

Not only does Steven Buscemi make every film he's in worth watching, he elevates the films he's in to intensely personal and believable works of art. The man has so much passion for his characters that it's easy to forget he's acting, no matter how many times you've seen him in other films.

His performance in this film is no exception. In fact, it may well be his best. But then again, every time I see Mr. Buscemi in a film, I think that.

Having no idea that his film was extant, lo and behold I was delighted to be swept away again by Buscemi and the rest of the cast, as always so personal and intimate were their portrayals.

Everything Steve does is a labor of love. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend "Trees Lounge," which he directed and stars just about everyone in indie-country. I just watched it again. It's a film I'd watch every day if I had the time. Real people, real interactions, real joy and pain – it's almost like watching a documentary.
