I happened upon this as a dvd on sale and was surprised that it had not gotten more attention when it was released.

I happened upon this movie while channel surfing one night and was surprised at how enjoyable it actually was.

I just came across it, this morning, on HBO, and found it to be, EXQUISITE. Of course, it helped that I like Tom Berenger & Barbara Hershey. The ONLY annoyance was Wilford Brimley's completely unnecessary narration. At times, I felt like sticking an old sock in his mouth! All in all, NOT a bad movie and well worth my time.

Nice post, octsky. Just goes to show that you shouldn't put too much stock in what movie critics write, either: Leonard Maltin described "Last of the Dogmen" as, "annoyingly cliched and emminently forgettable." He gave the film just two stars. Maybe he was just having a bad day!

No, "Falling Down" is an R-rated movie with LOTS of cussin' and violence. Definitely NOT a family flick. I'm a bachelor (no kids), so the ratings code doesn't influence me, AT ALL! You indicated in your earlier post that you pick out films for both yourself, and kids. You like to sit down and watch them, together. I think THAT'S very NICE!

I tell 'ya, I caught Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in a remake of "Freaky Friday" (a Disney film),
and EVEN a jaded, middle-aged man like me enjoyed it! I also caught Steve Martin and Debra Winger (a BIG favorite of mine!) in a 1992 movie entitled, "Leap of Faith." I'm NOT a BIG Steve Martin fan, but it's one of my favorite movies. My ONLY reservation is it's rated PG-13. I just recently saw it, again, and I don't remember any offensive language; perhaps it earned its PG-13
for adult situations. There's no nudity in it, though.

You seem to gravitate to action movies; just about all the action movies I've enjoyed seem to be
R-rated. Sorry. The "Lord of the Rings" trilogy doesn't interest me. Ditto, the "Star Wars" franchise. Gee, I'm scratching my head trying to think of movies that would be conducive to your
situation. No, I think we're in different universes. When you visit your local video store (have you noticed that they're becoming fewer in number, as DVD takes a hold of the market? The only ones left are the big chains), continue to use discretion. With kids, you HAVE to check the ratings. Read reviews on IMDb before renting (or buying). Have you considered borrowing from your local library? Librarians are a GOOD SOURCE of useful information!

Good luck!

Loved this movie. It happened to catch my eye one day in Sam Goody's, got the "this looks interesting feeling". I am one who loves reading the old 19th century "lost race"romance novels like those of Rider Haggard, and the same theme in the old pulp fiction mags, people like Edgar Rice Burroughs and Abraham Merritt. A darn good yarn I would say, plus a message about our past injustices to Native Americans. The Sand Creek Massacre was a real event.
Had not known of it,glad I found it.

It is a shame Hollywood does not produce more movies of the sort!
