Audacious Movie That Couldn't Get Made Now [SPOILERS]

The 'innocent' Black man on death row, turns out to be guilty, and a bad guy who kidnaps the hero's kid (played by a very young Scarlett Johansson).

The white liberal hero turns out to be wrong in his progressive liberal assumptions about the innocent death row Black man he's trying to protect.

The bigoted, over-zealous and internalised racist Black detective, played by Laurence Fishburne turns out to be 100% right in his assumptions regarding the 'innocent' Black man.

I'm not saying I personally agree with the film's messages and implications, especially as someone who is militantly *anti-capital punishment*. BUT, I will commend the film for saying something that goes against the 'right-on' or in this day-and-age 'woke' message one might expect.

I am surprised a movie like this was made during the 90s.
