Sean Connery character = dumbest in movie history
I think Connery's character is just real stupid.
I wish I could win arguments so easily by saying something is arbitrary and capricious.

I agreed with him, though. The other guy tried to use the grief of victims' families as an excuse for the death sentence. That argument doesn't go beyond "He hit me, I'm gonna hit him back!" type reasoning, which is also what small kids do.

That's damn easy to say in hindsight. I bet most people had no idea Bobby Earl actually was guilty, that was a very unexpected twist. When I read about the film I expected it to be a drama about racism and prejudice. You don't exactly expect them to turn the wrongly accused black guy into the actual culprit all of the sudden, then. Admittedly, I always thought it would be cool if filmmakers did that once for a change (like an anti-anti-stereotype), and was pleasantly surprised by Just Cause.
In short, Armstrong wasn't dumb for falling for it. Bobby Earl was just damn smart.

George Clooney in The Good German is pretty dumb and wimpy to boot.
shareIf he had really been dumb he wouldn't have interpreted the bible clue (11.1) and found the knife. Bobby Earl wouldn't have got out and Armstrong and his family would have been safe from their kidnap trauma. So maybe there's something to be said for not just being dumb but being really dumb.

I also liked how the movie played with my emotions - happy to see the innocent man go free and dismayed at the result.
Still, after the trial was over, as soon as I noticed that there were 40 minutes left I knew that Bobby Earl wasn't innocent. There was absolutely not way to fill up the rest of the time without that turnaround.
I thought the first part of the movie was more well done. After the trial it seemed like a cheap thriller.
One last note - if I was Armstrong I might have hired a bodyguard after getting conked from behind with a baseball bat.

in prison murderers have alot more privileges than they should have so if thats the way it is in prison than they all might as well be put to death since that would seem like the only real punishment
I'm gonna die unless you kill me!
if you'd notice how by the end of the movie letting murderers/rapists live is alot easier said than done!!
I'm gonna die unless you kill me!
I like how they turned the guy who was against capital punishment, at the start of the film, into an executioner. Funny stuff. I guess it really is different when YOUR family is involved. It tried to teach a lesson although somewhat ham-handedly.
shareDo you think that at some point everyone agrees with capital punishment?

Nice try,Arenas.
You want to play the game, you'd better know the rules, love.
