Yeah, Harris was AWESOME in this film, but seriously the same could be said for Connery & Fishburne and even Underwood, they were all excellent in their own ways. Very underrated film, and my favorite Ed Harris performance.
"I'm the ultimate badass, you do NOT wanna f-ck wit me!"Hudson,Aliens😬
Harris was way too over the top to take seriously. His Crazed Southern Rube impression failed to convince me of anything except that he was just trying too hard. He's capable of refined, controlled, understated acting such as his portrayal of the Nazi sharpshooter in Enemy at the Gates. The role in Just Cause, however, was just cornpone "gee, look at this crazy killer acting like a crazy killer" junk. As if Harris had to do any stretching for this role - no stretching was called for - only diminishment. Coupled with this factor was the lax direction (throw in some "scary" alligators to make sure the audience will get nervous just knowing that they're swimming around; let's do flashbacks of the beating while the villain is telling Connery about the beating, which we've seen just a few minutes earlier; oh, yeah - don't forget to throw in those alligators again - for suspense, ya know...). Just a silly movie with silly plot points and an ill-used Ed Harris.
