looks awful doesnt it? im buying the judge dredd with stallone on bluray and skipping this new junk. it looks like the new batmans, overdoing the gritty realism sh** again (isnt hollywood tired of this yet?) and lacking the comic book fun. face it, action movies of the 80's/90's were the best. todays stuff is just junk.
If you prefer the Walt Disney Shallow Corporate Summer Blockbuster Power Ranger Dumbed Down For The Masses Recycled Product the 1995 Stallone movie was, then good for you.
...Despite some superficial similarities in costume design and character, there could not be two more different adaptations of a comic book on record. I am, to be clear, including Batman & Robin and The Dark Knight in this comparison. At least Joel Schumacher’s movie accepted that there was a Batman. Judge Dredd spends its entire running time apologizing for its hero’s existence, as if the studio was simply ashamed to be bringing the comic book character to life in the first place. ... Judge Dredd was, let’s be honest, made for children, or at least adult audiences to be condescended to like children. It’s a product of a simpler era of comic book adaptations, in which complexity was traded for overt style...
I wouldn't bother with this guy Norse_Sage, LaPfieffer92 is really the second alias of Brownish33( from what I heard), who got his account banned a couple of months ago. There is no arguing with him, he's as childish and misinformed as they come. He also has never read a comic book before in his life, yet claims he understands every comic character out there like the back of his hand, when he really only has been exposed to their film adaptations. That said, try as you might to show him he's dead wrong on this movie being better than Dredd he will not listen and just label you as an insecure troll and put you on ignore. He's really an overgrown child living in the body of a guy in his mid-20's...
I've got an ignore list longer than a Chinese pone book.
I most certainly am. And I agree, I'm fed up with that "gritty realism" bullsh*t, as if there was something wrong with movies being fun or fantastic. It's just another dumb trend, just like what happened with comic books in the 1990s: everything had to be "gritty" and "extreme".
Thing is, Dredd '12 is not a remake, it's a reboot and apparently according to reviews and everyone who has seen it, like Norse_Sage, it's not only a superior film it's one of the best action movies of the year. and Karl Urban is to Dredd what Christopher Reeve is to Superman and Robert Downey Jr. is to Iron Man...

I actually said that I had seen a million movies like it before, but I admit I left it a bit open. I had to, just so you fúcking rabid fanatics wouldn't have the easy way out of saying "you haven't seen it, therefore we won't take you seriously, and will proceed to insult you now" when debating with me. It's sad, but I have to lie to you guys to be able to debate with you like fúcking human beings do.
I don't need to see the movie to decide that I don't like the idea of Urban playing Dredd, the fact that they removed nearly all of the fantasy/ sci-fi elements to set it in a stupid and nonsensical "real" world, or the fact that there isn't a single "Drokk" in the dialogues.
BTW, I'd appreciate if you'd leave me alone, I still don't like you, and debating with you is one of the most useless things I've ever done, closely followed by voting in the last elections.
"Thanks, at least you had the decency to be honest, but lying/letting on that you've seen the film and then proceeding to criticise its specifics, of which you don't know, is pretty revealing about yourself."
The hell you mean by "I don't know"? I'm POSITIVE that Karl Urban has been cast as Dredd, I don't need to see the movie to disagree with that... Ah, I don't know why I bother.
"These are only some examples, no point bullshítting anymore."
Because I READ THE FÚCKING SCRIPT when it leaked, how many times do I have to explain that to you? But there's no point in trying to debate with you, is there? The guys behind Dredd 3D put your name in the movie, so they're your chums. They can do no wrong, eh?
"The script is not the final film nor the direction or performances."
So what you're saying is, I can't judge a films quality based on its screenplay, huh? Guess you'll have to tell that to the thousands of directors, screenwriters, teachers and producers who disagree with you.
I don't like the story. I don't like what Garland did with Judge Dredd. The best direction and the best performances in the world can't change that. Period.
You like it? Fine. I'm sure you like many other things that aren't too good either, like smoking or unprotected sex. But don't try to force me into believing they're good.
"but I didn't know they'd done it until after I'd defended the film's position and I don't know the film-maker's personally, never have. It's another example of your argument being cheap, ignorant and containing false accusations about the motiviations behind people's intentions and you haven't even bothered to see the film."
Well, same as you can accuse me of lying, I can accuse YOU of lying, how 'bout that? And for the record, if you and your pals hadn't have acted like fúcking football hooligans, showing 0 manners and verbally attacking anyone who disagreed with you, I wouldn't have felt the need to "manipulate" you so I could keep debating in a civilized way.
PS: I wonder if the producers behind "Dr3Dd" gave name tags to the slaughtered perps with the names "Scojo" or "Ibaihk" in them, seeing how involved they were in Internets drama...
"The problem is you admitted it. I can't admit to something I didn't do."
That's probably because I truly am an honest guy and I hate lying.
And I can tell you that you and your mates in the "Dre3d appreciation brigade" have been acting like a posse of witch-hunters with no objectivity, no tolerance and no manners. I noticed that the moment I wrote a lengthy post in the Dre3d boards explaining what I didn't like from the leaked script and someone (maybe you?) replied "thanks for the sh!t review". That, you can admit.
"You did exactly the same; you're doing it now."
I'm giving you the exact same amount of respect you gave me. Actually, I'm being more respectful than you ever were, considering I said I was going to ignore your rude, loudmouthed a$$.
"That would be funny but you'd nothing good to say about anything."
There's enough a$$-kissing in the world already. We need more dissenting voices, don't you think? Debate, as I once said, makes you smarter and more civilized.
Also, that attitude refreshingly contrast with yours, according to which, Dre3d is the best movie ever made, it's got the best script, the best direction and the best performances to ever grace the silver screen.
By the way, you forgot to comment at least half of my post. If you want to prove me wrong, you've still got some work to do.
We watched and reviewed both movies in the same day. Dredd is far and a way a better film. I see what your trying to say atleast, that the 95 version was fun and campy. Movies can be lots of fun and still be good however, in the 95 Dredd it was a poor attempt at a fun film. They didnt know what they wanted to be. There was all these serious themes conflicting with bad one liners from schneider and stallone. The music absolutely did not fit the film, it sounded like they were playing Batman Forever music and it did not fit the action or the scenes. The costumes were even terrible. In Dredd, yes it is gritty but its not overly realistic. There are some fun sci fi themes and a couple of cool over the top gory violent comic book scenes. Its a fun movie that you can actually take seriously rather than a movie that takes itself too seriously. I think its a good thing to give your source material some credibility rather than make it out to be a cheesy joke, especially since the jokes weren't funny.
actually the only thing that didn't match in that film was mr moron. other than that. was a movie with a comic feel to it. like 300.. ---- "If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." = Will Rogers
can't stand the realism crap. can't say the new movie is crap but I go to the theaters to escape. Not watch stuff that could happen here.. looks from the numbers the remake is going to bomb worse than this one did. and this isn't considered a bomb. It made it's money well over. Yeah think I'd end up buying the blu ray. key to getting people out to see the movie is to have a great trailer. 1/2 the trailer was okay then it went boring midway thru. and in todays market it needs a grab. and it's save to say Hollywood did not have a good weekend

Wrong, the 1995 movie bombed BIG TIME. It bombed in theaters, it bombed on Laserdisc, it bombed on DVD, and it only got a Blu-ray release because of the new movie. It lost a fortune, ended Stallone's reign as an A-lister (he did a decade of DTV movies following this), and the main producers never made another film.
The loss of the 2012 movie is smaller, and divided across many investors. No one will take any major hit from it.
Dredd was filmed at an expensive location, which featured expensive sets and expensive effects. Also, they key talent involved were anything but cheap. I see no reason to doubt the 90 mill figure, and looking at what happened to the bulk of the involved after the movie was released and failed to earn what it needed, I also see no reason to doubt how much it lost.
I have not watched the remake and judging by how generally poor the original is, this might be an extremely rare case of a sequel been better than the original!
