A relevent message even today
-Saw it again last night after a few years. Saw it at the show when it first came out and like it more now.
-Though some things in this movie are dated, its message is even more relevant today:
-Too much Technology caused N.A.S. and look at our world today - we're completely dependent on the Internet and Cell phones, etc.
-I don't think N.A.S. will ever happen but we are now a culture of cell phone junkies. One of my co-workers forgot his cell phone a couple of years ago and for 8 hours I swear I never heard such whining and complaining.
-Profound statement "It's more profitable to treat the disease than to cure it" and today were about 10 years away from Healthcare bankrupting the U.S. while the Insurance companies and Hospitals fatten their pockets all the while crying they're broke.
-Anyone remember when they mapped the Human Gene about 10 years ago and they promised they would start finding cures for diseases, at least 1 major disease in the first 10 years?
-Using a Dolphin as Jones was clever considering they have larger brains and the sounds they make are far more complex than Human vocal patterns. They were once considered the only animal to be more intelligent than Humans.
-And any movie that doesn't rely on shaky cam, superfast cuts and mindless plot twists gets extra points.
-Ingenious is what I call this movie. Not great but very entertaining. I know it borrows from other movies but what movie doesn't. The only bad part IMO is when Stick and his buddy are goofin' off and accidently drop the car bomb in what should've been a serious moment then Reeves goes on his room service hooker tirade.
-I'm not familiar with the original short story and I'm not into Directors or Authors, etc. so I don't get all the criticism and some things are dated but remember , 95 was the breakout year for the Internet and Cell phones.
