Good idea, poorly executed
This is one of those rare occasions when a remake would be a great idea. This would be a great movie with a larger budget, smoother script, better actors, and a polished director.

shareEven if the movie kind of grabbbed a bunch of Gibson's ideas and put them into one place, I agree that an actual remake of this would be pretty cool.
Realistically, it would better to just start fresh, but I feel like the story as presented in Johnny Mnemonic is accessible and is something that still stands the time.
Honestly I'm not sure it's that great of an idea. 1. You can't copy 300 gb of data onto a 160 gb hard drive, that transfer would've immediately failed and everyone would've known it. 2. Even if you're going to transport data in such an old fashioned way, is it really necessary to implant it in your head? Then you end up with exactly the scenario in the movie - people out to chop your head off. Hide the drive in a box of cereal and send it through the mail or something, assuming you can't simply set up a secure ftp connection.

The drive is melded with brain, it's not a regular drive.
shareYeah agreed 100%. Better script, actors, and even a better title (I thought this was a comedy) would do wonders for these ideas.
