Katie and her mom both were having marital problems. Luckily for her mom, her marriage wasn't nearly as bad as her daughter's, because her (Katie's) dad was not physically abusive like Jimmy was.

I didn't feel THAT bad for her. She saw the biggest red flags that her husband was a jackass at best & dangerous at worst.
He climbed in her window please, then SMACKED her face when she protested about sex!
She should have cut him off right there.

I'm glad she shot him in self defense. Too bad her mom, her sister and her neighbor didn't step in sooner but I guess you don't always know how to react in situations like these.

If I were the judge in this movie and when Katie was found not guilty by the jury and before Jimmy's family apologized to her, I would have told the witnesses to call the police next time they witness domestic violence instead of ignoring it for one reason or another.
