Was the fortune teller alive or dead?

I think she was alive but had 'the gift' just like the professor.

It seemed to me that the gypsy fortune teller was alive, hence her comment to Christina that "there is nothing I can tell you that you do not already know", on obvious reference to the fact that Christina is already dead.
