Time for a reboot?
I definitely think this movie could be rebooted and be relevant. It's a campy cult favorite, so as long as they didn't try to be too serious about it, I think it would work.

shareSee Mr Robot. I know it's more serious than hackers but I think it fills the void nicely.
shareI"d be ok with a reboot
share'Hackers 2' would be like 'Lawnmower Man 2'. It would suck, because they'd ruin every good thing about the original.
shareNot really, this is a type of film that belongs in the 1990s and should stay there.
Back then, the idea of hacking seemed like a foreign concept. People barely knew the damage that computer hackers, viruses, malware, etc. could actually do. Nowadays, there's programs out there to protect you from just about everything. Plus, technology is practically rampant in this day and age.
Remember Y2K? Everybody panicked simply because they were afraid that "computers" weren't going to be able to distinguish from the year 2000 and 1900. They wound up treating it like a modern-day Cold War. This is how limited people's knowledge was about what computers and computer programs are actually capable of.
With that being said, you could never top a hacking movie like this one or The Net (1995). They even had the right cast, ranging from Jonny Lee Miller to a young Angelina Jolie. It was great for its time, but that time has certainly passed.
Edit: I also wanted to mention that a sequel would be a better idea. It'd be nice to see what happened to Dade, Kate, and the rest of the gang. Unfortunately, I don't think Angelina would ever go near this movie again with a ten-foot pole.

Fuc_k no. This movie was great because it's from the 90s. Todays cinematography and CGI *beep* would flat out ruin it.
shareno. How about they make a new movie in a similar vain? Then when it sucks it doesn't ruin an already great movie. Reboots in general are unnecessary. Do you have trouble watching movies that take place in a different time? Do you need the *beep* color configuration and hack cinematography of today to enjoy a film?
shareI would like to say yes but I'm not really a fan of a lot of the recent reboots, and the fact that there are soo damn many of them lately. But I guess if they kept the premise but changed it to do with something more relevant then maybe. A very distant acquaintance of mine was telling me her reasons for going iPhone, because "they can never be hacked or anything like that." I mean it might not be the best idea but I instantly thought of how quick the hackers in Hackers could've proved her wrong lol
