ad-libs
Does anyone know if Burgess Meredith ad-libbed the hilarious come-on lines at the grocery store that are in the outtakes?

shareI think the lines delivered by Burgess Meredith, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau throughout the movie were possiby 99% ad-libbed... these guys have acted together so much over the years that the whole films looks and feels like an 'improv' comedy - the script was probably used by them in the abstract sense - as a kind of guide and nothing else. Who knows, the Director probably told them to just go for it, while he did a bit of fishing off-camera :) Yes, I know there were out-takes during the end credits, but who knows, maybe they were staged just so that they could appear as human as other actors :)
Okay, it's just my hypothesis, having seen almost every film they have made, however this film just felt like it was a walk in the park for them.
They have all past on now, but they have left behind a beautiful legacy for us all to enjoy for many years after.
I know that, for me anyway, I cannot resist watching their films over and over again, and this film was no exception.
Ciao and cheers
et tu, Bruté?
Locked my wire coat-hanger in the car - good thing that I always carry spare keys in my pocket :)
