Max's Truck
What does Max drive? I think it is an old Suburban. Does anyone know? And does John drive a Dodge Dart?

shareI think it could be an old International - the model name they used for their consumer vehicle escapes me, though.
You just have to be resigned-
You're crashing by design
Its an International Travelall,by the looks of it about a 1965 or 66 model.
sharei think it is a dart, john's
"The true hunter only hunts when hungry."
Max's is an International of some model, they made them pretty big in the 60s and 70s. John drives a Dodge Monaco, about 67 or 68. I owned one, I bought in 86, Best Dodge I ever owned, 386 V8, A/C, all Power, Factory AM/FM, enough room in the back seat----well you get it.
I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney, than driving with Ted Kennedy
About Max's truck. About 6 years ago my brother found it for sale in a local (Minnesota) Auto Trader for something like $1300. The seller said it was the same one used in the movie (It was an International), and from the picture, it looked the same. I'm not sure how they could prove it, however. We didn't buy it. I wonder if it had the genuine imitation leather seats!
share...i've always thought that Max drove a Travelall, and John a Dodge Dart. my dad loved Darts, and had them for years, and a friend of our family had a Travelall that i loved as a kid...

"Ooh!Pass the popcorn! This is gonna be good!"
Max drives an International Harvester Travelall. It's probably an early 70's model. The models from the 60's have the rounded body style. Very neat truck, and they're getting harder and harder to come by.

John's car is a 1968 Dodge Polara...you can tell by the side marker lights in the fenders. These were first required by the DOT in 1968, and the '67 models were nearly identical, but didn't have the little round lights in the fenders.
The Monaco had different taillights and a mesh grille in front. The engine was most likely a 383 2bbl which was rated at 290 hp. I was always surprised that the producers were able to find a relatively rust-free example, especially in Minnesota...the car had a unitized body and frame that was very susceptible to rust.
The International Travelall is a couple of years newer than the Dodge; probably early '70's. It most likely had a 304 v8, most did. The cars were very nice to see, and I always wondered if they actually came from the film location area or from California, since the bodies were in such good shape...the Dodge had a tendancy to "ping" a little, so it could have used a tune-up; but somehow , it seemed to fit into the story pretty well that way.

Here's a link to the cars in question...

You can also see that it says Polara on the side of the car when Max finds the fish in his truck in the first movie.
shareMax drives an International Harvester Travelall, I believe it's a Travelall 1110. They're an extended version of the International Harvester Scout, much like a Suburban (which is a lengthened Chevrolet Blazer). Very hard to come by.
shareActually, the TravelAll from International Harvester was built on the full-sized longbed IH truck chassis, just like Chevy Suburbans are built from the full sized Chevy truck chassis. The IH Scout had only one 'big brother', the Scout Traveller, just an elongated chassis but still only two doors, and a hatchback door. The Scout is a mid-sized SUV. What was great was they both had the 345 CI V-8 available. The Scout was really built and it could move!
