The couch or loveseat where Grandpa dies and where he courts Marias mother? well that thing just had to be wet and filled with all manner of vermin. I mean it sat out in the elements day and night and people always sat on it as if it were fine. OMIGOD. I cant imagine it was not crawling with bugs and home to many woodland creatures. always bothered me.

That always bothered me too. That couch was just left out to the elements and no telling what type of mold, germs, etc was growing/thriving in it. Also no telling what types of critters made that couch home when no one was there, LOL. No way would I want to sit on it..........
We are not supposed to think about that. I didn't think about it. The people and the story were wonderful. DOn't be so negative.
Actually I thought it was a wooden bench where he sat.Think about that instead, And think positively.
What you didn't see is the Gustafsons shed located nearby that they stored the couch in every day.
I choose not to think of that gross couch any other way.
