Who was the actor... (spoiler)

...that shot Rumbo?
I never caught the character's name.
What a caricature of a face?

Ron Perlman

reply

he plays HELL BOY

reply

Ron is an unusual-looking man who is perfect for these sinister roles.

reply

I once heard his face described as "strong-looking"--and somehow, I knew exactly what the person meant. xD That's quite accurate. He sure does have a unique appearance, and it often lends him to certain types of roles, even though he has great range as an actor. =]

reply

His face is indeed strong-looking, and perhaps strange-looking as well. He certainly has an imposing presence, and he inhabits his characters well.

reply

Absolutely...strange-looking perhaps, but I tend to love people with more unique, interesting, and recognizable appearances, and this guy is certainly one of those! =]

reply

Indeed. I didn't mean "strange-looking" as an insult, and I hesitated to describe him that way but his appearance is certainly unusual. He harkens back to an era when people like Jack Nance, Richard Kiel and Michael Berryman made their marks in films. I think Hollywood could use more distinctive-looking individuals rather than the plasticized pretty girls (and boys) we've been subject to lately.

reply

I could not agree with you more; that's precisely what I always say! ;) And I knew you didn't mean it as an insult--it's true, but in a very positive way. ^^

reply

don't forget michael ironside ;-)

reply

I love Michael Ironside, and I think he's quite the looker! Love those Canadian genes.

reply

Not only sinister, those those seem to be the ones Hollywood dealt him.

Far from sinister, though unusual in appearance and violent as necessary, he played Vincent, the lion-faced hero of TV series "Beauty and the Beast" (the beauty being Linda Hamilton, who rejected a third season to grab the brass ring of bigtime in "Terminator".)

BatB is worth watching to see Perlman at his best.

reply

Yes, he does seem to be typecast quite a bit. He is indeed amazing in "Beauty and the Beast."
