I always thought it went by the release dates. The first one came out in 1991 and the second in 1995, so I thought that Annie and Brian had been married for about four years-ish. Besides, Matty is eleven in the second movie (he say so) and he clearly was not eleven or even ten in the first movie. Just my thoughts.

I think 4 years was suppose to have gone by because I think I remember in the first one Matty was 8 and then yeah in the second one he was definately 12. So yeah..I would say 4 years;)

After just watching the 2 FOTB movies back to back. I noticed the timeline is a little messed up. 4yrs was susposed to have gone by,but yet in the first movie Annie said she lived in the house since she was 5 and being 22 that would be 17 yrs. In the sequel George mentioned he's lived in the house 18yrs. Which would make Annie only 23. In which she should be 26.

is was only 9 months ago because when steve martin is talking about what happened in the first one he said that it was 9 months ago!so it was less than a year between the time when Annie got married and got pregnant.

When George refers to the nine months he's talking about how long ago it was that Annie told them she was pregnant!

reply

yeah but he says something about it being a year ago but not even before the ball dropped again on him.

I agree that he says a year. I think his daughter had been married three months when she got pregnant. You can't go by the movie release dates.

There are several references in the movie which say that it is only supposed to take place a year after the wedding (or even less).
At the beginning, George mentions that it's been one year (presumably since the wedding).
Then when George and Nina are sitting on the kitchen floor, she says something like "Last year you wanted Annie to get married in the backyard."
Also when he's selling the house, he says that it's been 18 years since they moved, and in the first movie it was 17 (when Annie was 5). It's definitely not supposed to be set four years after the original.
Also, Annie got married in January and she is due in July, presumably a year and a half later.

The one year timeline makes sense based on several movie references in party II, as pointed out above. However, it does not account for the fact that Matty is clearly more than only a year older and he makes a reference to his age of 11. Unfortunately they waited too long for the sequel to make sense for all characters. Nina would bed 45 if it was a year later but 48 if it was 4 years after the wedding. A year makes sense for both of the moms but not for Matty, and 48 is pushing it for believability with Nina too.
