I never understood why AJ vetoed that song (and literally burned the CD), especially since he was grooving to it, and even more especially considering the other music Mark plays later in the movie!

shareThrow back to high school & college work, Katrina, but, why did he burn it? That's easy, it's one of the parts of the movie I can relate the most to.
I worked in a place sorta like that. Cameras not records, but independent with it's own speakers, we could pick the play lists.
We had a guy Nate there & every time it was his turn, EVERY morning, it was Common People by Pulp. EVERY time he got to pick the playlist. EVERY morning.
Now don't get me wrong, it's a great song by a good band, but EVERY morning.
I never went so far as to burn the CD like AJ did, but the temptation was there.
My guess is, & I am likely reading my own life into Empire Records, Mark ALWAYS played Seems. It's a good song, they are all grooving to it, but enough can be enough.
But of trivia, the band playing in that scene was a local band from Wilmington where the empire records building is now a restaurant/arcade.
