What happened to the brides of Dracula?

Hello! (Sorry for my bad english)

In the "original" Dracula movie from 1992, Van Helsing kills the 3 brides of Dracula in his castle.

But in this movie not. What happened to them? They could still turn people into vampires.

Renfield never told anybody about them, and I am sure that Van Helsing doesn´t know they exist - he surely would go to the castle to find them.

Good question. But then again it's a Mel Brooks film.

reply

That´s true ... he could have made a second movie with them ;)

reply

I thought those were his daughters, myself, the way he says, "You think this makes me proud of you?" Maybe they couldn't leave the castle.

Maybe killing the brides of Dracula on this parody would have been too gruesome, since in the 1992 Coppola Dracula film, they were decapitated by Van Helsing and the producers didn't want to show such a violent scene in "Dead and Loving It".

reply

Well, driving a stake through the heart of Lucy with gallons of blood squirting around is not gruesome? ^^

But seriously: I think Brooks could also make their death funny. Or he could have come up with some other idea for them. The way it is now, it looks like he used them both just for one small joke, and then he didn´t care for it. I don´t find such plot-holes in Young Frankenstein.

reply

I think they were only there just for that one gag with Renfield. After they used them for that joke, they weren't really needed again. Plus, as others have said, it could just be that no one else but Renfield knew they were there. Hell, maybe they became human again after Dracula was killed.

I could see Mel coming back to do daughter and son of Dracula if he wanted to. It would be perfect with the brides.

In the Francis Ford Coppola version (and I'm assuming the book as well but it's been a while since I've read it), Van Helsing chopped their heads off, but then again they didn't go to Transylvania at the end in this version so I guess the curse on them was lifted since Dracula is dead.
