Jeremy Irons "southern accent"

He's a good actor, but that was laughably bad. Any cop hearing that would immediately be like "oh, your the bad guy trying to disguise your accent".

reply

When does he do a ‘southern accent’?

reply

My exact thoughts

reply

When he runs into the police as he is bringing in the dump trucks and he says they are there to clean up. It's only a few lines, but he's definitely going for something like a southern accent...and failing. Scene starts a few seconds before the 50 minute mark.

reply

He’s not doing a ‘southern accent’, it might be an accent south of New York where they roll their R’s as in most of America but it’s not from the American South.

You’re criticising Irons for failing at something he never attempted.

reply

You can't even discern what accent he's going for because he did it so badly, but you're telling me I'm wrong? Yeah, I'm sticking with my statement.

reply

Irons is not doing a Southern American accent. You’ve just imagined he is, and are criticising him for doing so, it’s absurd.

reply

Irons is not doing a southern accent, agreed, but he definitely is trying to, and you are giving him a pass for doing so. You've just imagined he isnt, which is absurd.

reply

but he definitely is trying to

No, he isn’t. You’ve imagined that.

reply

I was thinking at the time that he needed some coaching from Vivien Leigh. She'd said to keep it on pitch one had to say, "Fo' do' Fo'd." [Four door Ford.]

There are some excellent actors who can't do accents, and some who specialize in those more than in acting. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My husband and I watch the movie at least once a year, and you're right -- he's shooting for a Southern accent and missing by a mile.

reply

A website about action movies noticed it too, and it was significant enough they mentioned his failed drawl. Obviously, I'm not the only one to hear it.

That moron slams Al Pacino’s acting, he’s clueless.

reply

Only the weakest people find excuses to avoid saying they are wrong, despite all of the evidence pointing to the contrary. I literally found a source that supports my thoughts, and you find a way to avoid that reality. Hate to break it to you, but Pacino does lots of shit acting, which has nothing to do with this conversation, but plenty of people are too small to admit they are wrong and can find a strawman defense to avoid acknowledging that. But you do you...🤣

reply

That is some hectic projection. Wow. Denial is a hell of a drug.

reply

You’ve completely nuked any credibility you might have had now. First this ludicrous idea that Jeremy Irons is failing to perform an accent he’s not even attempting, and now you’re calling Al Pacino - probably the greatest screen actor ever - ‘shit’. As if you’re in any position to judge these highly respected, successful screen legends 🤣

Your ‘source’ is some clueless prick you found when you desperately Googled your moronic opinion to see if anyone else suffered from it. You haven’t bolstered your opinion, you’ve just found some other clown who shares it. You’re an insult to each other.

You’ve dug yourself into a hole in which you and some other internet maggot are actually dumping on Al Pacino 🤣 Keep digging, please…

Thank you for identifying yourself as such. Please, go to the majority of Al Pacinos movies pages of the last 15-20 years and spout how amazing they are. 88 minutes, Righteous Kill, The Humbling, Hangman, The Recruit, Standup guys...I could go on and on. But those are all great, right?🤣🤡

Good. Keep repeating your mantra, eventually it’ll sink in.

Nobody praised those shit films, pathetic straw man, and Pacino taking jobs in a few gash films now that Hollywood has completely turned to shit does nothing to detract from his status as probably the greatest screen actor ever.

Keep digging - this is excruciating and hilarious at the same time…

Dang! If everyone here got together to play a joke on you, they couldn't have done it better. But if you're right -- and you are -- and the whole world is wrong, just roll your eyes keep walking. These guys are sure they're right. They need to pay more attention next time they watch the movie, is all.

reply

I suspect they simply like to be contrary for the sake of it, and further I doubt they went back and actually watched it, because there is nobody that could honestly not hear what we heard. Yeah. I've moved on and I'm letting these guys display their ignorance for whoever else might care, because I don't.

reply

What you and everyone heard was Irons doing an accent that is not Southern American. You then imagined that he was attempting that accent and failing.

Then when your error was pointed out you doubled down and hilariously suggested that Al Pacino, probably the greatest screen actor ever, ‘does lots of shit acting’ 🤣

There are plenty of ignorant, nasty internet maggots who love to criticise artists from the safety of their screens to compensate for deep inadequacy. You’re not alone.

reply

Or get this. His character is bad at doing accents as irons isn’t pretending to do an accent it’s Simon that’s pretending so maybe it’s intentionally bad which in case of the performance is brilliant which is inline with dogs and cats comment by the fake security guard that bad guy Germans can’t pull off faking being American
