open his eyes after he dies?

When the muscles around the eyes are relaxed their natural state is open. I'm not sure that would have happened right away like it did in the movie but it would happen eventually. It's actually incorrect that the eyes stay closed when someone in a movie closes a dead person's eyelids.

I think it was mostly for dramatic effect, but it does tend to happen in real life, especially when there are tears in the eyes
