first of all, revenge isnt a crime, someone renders you grief, deserves to be taught a lesson, if a punishment seems too harsh? stop the crime you're about to commit, simple.
and the capital punishment is revenge and life sentence isnt? how freakin laughable, and why punish at all, all punishments can appear to be revenge so let him be free.... what retards, seriously...

If I ever rape and murder someone, then I will certainly deserve to have everything taken away from me. However, I have no such plans (in spite of the fact that my childhood wasn't particularly happy or wealthy).

I don't see life imprisonment without parole as punishment primarily, so much as keeping the person away from society so they cannot kill anyone else.
