This movie was ABYSMAL.
Please ignore the ludicrous and inexcusable 7.5 user rating and save yourself the two hours. This movie was horrendous beyond belief.

Great movie, I'm glad I didn't ignore the 7.5 imdb rating. :)
sharewere there ever a movie that could be described as simultaneously awful and brilliant, it's this one. also, pretty much every claude chabrol film ive ever watched has made me want to take a shower
sharethe french can't make movies.
they think they can, but they can't.
they confuse asininity with art.
but they have beautiful actresses and this is worth watching just for sandrine bonnaire and isabelle huppert.
both beautiful women and great actresses.
i thought they were great together.
I thought this was wonderful. I agree wholeheartedly about bonnaire and huppert, they are a delight. But mainly I enjoyed it from a "class war" perspective. For my taste, not enough films end with smug, middle-class families being massacred.
"Who does he think he is? Ernie Wise?"
The "class war" perspective doesn't work because the bourgeois family wasn't anywhere bad enough to deserve their fate, hence Jeanne and Sophie come across as a couple of garden-variety psychopaths.
shareYou are a very dumb person, thus your 'opinion' means nothing.
shareIt´s the worst Chabrol I´ve seen thus far, largely because there hardly seems to be any point to the whole thing; what does it actually SAY about the class struggle? I mean, it features about the nicest bourgeois family one is ever likely to see getting shot up by the likes of Bonnaire/Huppert who are psychotic for no apparent reason other than they were born this way. So, the message is... what? Upper class = good & proletarians = evil? I´m sure I´m missing something here...

Really? I had a different word in mind to describe it: superb.
shareOne of my two favorite Chabrol (the other is "Le boucher", another amazing movie), la céremonie brings together two of the best actresses, this movie is just stunning, unbelievable, incisive, powerful, nihilistic, is itself a synonym of a seventh art.
