Pirates of the Carribean owes this film a lot

You don't just go from a Disney ride to making a fully-fleshed pirate movie; you need a template, and Cutthroat Island definitely was it. A little shapeless but the principals were all fine and it was just one of those mid-nineties movies too ahead of its time (for another example of this see the Showtime doc. "Superman: What Happened?" about the failed Nicolas Cage Superman movie).

I like it much better than the Pirates of the carribbean films.

Let's not forget the crazy character of Jack Sparrow. Like him or dislike him, that franchise wouldn't have been nearly as popular without him. And Cutthroat Island didn't have anything close to its own Jack Sparrow.

If you can read this then you are trying too hard.

I agree, I think this movie is just as good as the Pirate's movies.
