I'm sorry I would imagine a lot of people would classify this as a guilty pleasure, if they admit they like it but i'm not sure why. I saw this on video when it came out, thought it was just okay. Watched it yesterday, and i'm like, this is really good. I actually think this is one of the few films (a lot of films claim this but) that actually was killed by bad press.
shareMiscast and not that well directed. The supports are great, but the leads are clearly sleepwalking through this. How that tall marginally-pretty woman got cast in this thing is beyond me. Poor Modine did his best, but looked a little cautious ... like he was a afraid of pissing off the director.

shareBad. Textbook bad. Renny can hardly direct at all. I give him credit for one film: Long Kiss Goodnight. The rest of his movies are D grade trash.

I would call it neither particularly good nor particularly bad. It's decent . . . okay . . . watchable. A 6/10. It's at least better than its usually given credit for.
I do give you props for appreciating The Long Kiss Goodnight, though. That's definitely his best film and it should've done better at the the box office. It's a great action movie.
I don't think it's the only Renny movie worth watching, however. Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea and Driven are all worth at least one go-around.
Very bad, the unnecessary runtime is perhaps its greatest hallmark of incompetence.
