From the begining right to the end i saw nothing new ... not that that meant that it was a bad movie .. no, i had a god time watching it. Buet let me be clear about it ...
why watch a copy when an original is available * All hannibal lecter films * Se7en
Only two things are infinite: The universe Human stupidity And I'm not sure about the former.
I'm sorry but I find that a really bad leap of logic. You might as well say that every single movie ever made about serial killers is the same. What exactly can you tie between Silence of the Lambs (the other Lecter movies were made AFTER) and Copycat? The killer masquerading as a dead cop? Well first of all that's not the same, in Silence the cop wasn't supposed to be dead, he was supposed to be alive and Lecter's way out of the place. In Silence neither killer is modeling himself after another. Just because Bill and Lecter have a connection doesn't make it relevant. A serial killer following the careers, and some even correspond with, other serial killers isn't unheard of. And it's something that movies like Red Dragon originated. Besides Buffalo Bill was just a former patient (or was it a lover of a former patient) of Lecter's. He wasn't trying to emulate him, make up for his mistakes, or be his 'disciple' in any way.
And while I haven't seen se7en in a long time, that film was about a religiously motivated serial killer right? Where is the parallel? The killer in that movie thought of himself as an instrument of god, doling out punishment on the world for not adhering to god's mandated 'sins'. Peter and Daryll were more typical (at least for modern times) serial killers, in it for the glory and the infamy. They didn't care about who their victims were or what they'd done, they only cared about the image, the presentation, instilling fear in their victims and the populus in general.
Frankly I found Copycat to be a really good film. It dealt with many different facets of the phenomenon. The role of the police, desperate to help but powerless to understand the motivation of the killers. The role of the psychologists who study them, how they become the target of the killer's rage, and how what they do invades their own minds. It also had a side story, about the fact that cops aren't perfect and you can't always count on 'the book' to tell you how to do your job. Because even when you go by the book, things happen that are beyond your control. Weaver and Hunt were really good in this film, they didn't come off as damsel in distress cliches. They were strong women, victims yes but never victimized. They refused to be used as pawns in both Daryll and Peter's game. Instead they went on the offensive and that is what saved their lives. Connick and McNamara played their parts with realism, two very different kinds of killers. Peter would never claim a voice told him what to do, he was too proud of his work. He was much like Bundy, the ever charming disarmer of women. Daryll was much more the antisocial sociopath type. Not charming like Peter, just out to destroy and doing anything to continue his 'fun'. He didn't care if he degraded his work by claiming schizophrenic 'voices'.

a serial kille who comes back for the woman/man that tries to analyse/capture him ... does that ring a bell
BTW You should do your research more precise... THEY ALREADY MADE 2 LECTER MOVIES BEFORE COPYCAT ... you jackass! Don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk (or was it the other way around) . Go back to playing with your dolls
Only two things are infinite: The universe American stupidity And I'm not sure about the former.
First of all, explain this to me. Silence of the Lambs was released in 1991, Hannibal was in 2001, and Red Dragon was out in 2002. Copycat, on the other hand, was released in 1995. Exactly how do you come up with two of the Lecter movies being made BEFORE copycat? They certainly didn't keep Hannibal in the can for 6 years. And if somehow they did (which isn't true anyway since I recall when they were casting it and it was at least 1998), do you presume that the makers of Copycat somehow got an advanced showing so they could take notes? Talk about lousy research. It'll take you 20 seconds to verify this information on line.
And you seem to be twisting the plot around. It would be a copy, if Daryll himself came after the doc. But that's not the situation here. We have a man obsessed with Daryll who decides to go after Helen because she was Daryll's one failure. He THEN contacts Daryll to get his help in messing with Helen on a more personal level. The movie IS NOT about Daryll. It's about Peter. Daryll is a subplot. Again it would only be a copy of the movie was about the orginal Daryll/Helen confrontation, which it's not.
This movie is not about a serial killer going after the doctor who studies him. This is a movie about a serial killer mimicing his work after previous serials while taunting the cops and a well known psychologist who has studied other serials.
And closing thoughts, get a grip. Can't take any criticism? Everyone else's opinion is wrong, because it's not yours? And wtf is with the dolls thing? Haven't done that in about 20 years. Grow up and learn how to talk to adults.
The less a man makes declarative statements the less apt he is to look foolish in retrospect.
How is this for an answer: You have to be retarded: you dare to talk to me about research ? if you had a keyboard an an internet connection (wich i doubt i gues you acces imdb by smoke signals) you could have browsed around imdb and you'd have seen that there were 2 movies, maybe the first one ain't that famous and you think that a movie wich aint famous isn't a good one but i'll leave that to you. Here they come ; in chonological order: 1986 => Manhunter 1991 => Silence of the lambs 1995 => copycat ==> OOaaah , djeez that's strange huh ? I gues you didn't know that 1995 comes AFTER 1991 or 1986, but hey what did you expect from someone who lives under the bush administration

You know what you little mysogenistic punk, I suggest you clean up your writing really quick, because if this crap indicative if a personality disorder doesn't stop I will report these posts. I've never done it before because I don't mind bad language. But you're being an abusive little prick. And what the hell does me being from the US have to do with anything? You think you're being from Belgium makes you some kind of movie expert? And don't mix the 60% of American's who didn't, and NEVER would have, vote for Bush with the others.
As for Manhunter, well excuse the hell out of me for not knowing Red Dragon was essentially a remake. I've asked a few people who happen to be over today and none of them knew that. I wasn't going to Lecter websites, I was working under the misunderstanding that there only were three movies. You might've mentioned in the first reply that there were four of them. I'm happy to admit when I'm underinformed about something, because no one on the fricking planet can know about every movie ever made. Hell I've met people who didn't know that trash Bedazzled was a remake of a brilliant Peter Cook/Dudley Moore film.
You still didn't bother to address that the theme of the Lecter movies is NOTHING like the plot of Copycat. The stories aren't even about the same basic plot, other than the presence of more than one serial killer. The fact is that the Lecter movies, no matter how many there are, have squat to do with Copycat.
The less a man makes declarative statements the less apt he is to look foolish in retrospect.
as for that reply about the plots... i saw this movie in may and since i estimate that ive seen +/- 100+ other movies so i don't know the plot exactly anymore ... but i'll watch that movie again and then i'll reply
WAIT AND SEE
Only two things are infinite: The universe American stupidity And I'm not sure about the former.
First of all I want you to take some time and read what I’ve written and then read what your reply is ... • In my reply in which I mentioned Bush I wasn’t exactly praising mister bush nor his political convictions nor his taste for blood/war • As for the HERR part of my name …. May I remind you that in Belgium the three official languages are … Dutch, French, German, and so if my name sounds a little German you shouldn’t be pointing at Germany right away.
Secondly ... I know my English is far from perfect but as a Belgian you should be able to do better then what you're producing here! • Wy ==> WHY • that ol the residents of Belguim ==> ALL and BELGIUM (at least type the name of your own country right pls) • sujest ==> suggest • You can see that on his nick ==> to see something AT something or BY • some kind of German who love ==> LOVES • As the Belgian educational system is pretty well developed first we learn Dutch, then French, then English and optional also some German and/or Spanish, so I guess you’re no genius if you can’t even type such a small text without mistakes.
As for your nice insult : “you vermin-ridden war-mongering vacuous vomitrocious smegging ape !!” ==> I’d advise you not to use the http://www.insults.net/ random insult generator anymore ‘cause it makes you look silly when people know that you can’t even come up with an original insult. And don’t say you invented this insult ‘because after toying around a bit with the generator it produced an insult very similar to yours.
And last but not least ... as you have no opinion on the movie ... go screw yourself and leave the message board
Only two things are infinite: The universe American stupidity And I'm not sure about the former.
The title of this board and the criticism made by Herr-Waldo is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Other than the fact that Seven, the Lecter films, and Copycat all feature serial killers, there isn't that much similar between the films. Each has their own identity. And all are pretty good. This film is not a copy of another; it just happens to be in the same genre as the films you mentioned. Obviously you missed the entire point of the film's title.
"You do not know who you are *beep* with!!" -Blade 2
hmmm ... this is the one post where i keep getting comments about .... i mean ... the movie aint original ... and if i remember correctly , in all three movies i named the killer goes after the one trying to catch him
Only two things are infinite: The universe American stupidity And I'm not sure about the former.
Hold on a second here....Copycat isn't original because it apes Seven and ALL Hannibal Lector films??? And Seven and Silence were totally original themselves were they? Silence doesn't borrow from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Seven doesn't borrow from from every serial killer film ever made? No film these days is totally original, the fact that the film is called COPYcat should tell you something... PS: It's not too smart claiming Copycat borrowed from "All hannibal lecter films" when two fo them were produced AFTER Copycat... Durh!
I think Scream 2 (1997) Copied the Copycat (1995) a little and just changed it to teens and made it milder.
*The murderer was copying the work of previous killers *The Woman repeatedly shooting the serial killer in the end, ending with a blow to the head. *The Partridge family song "I think I love you"
There was something else too,but I've forgotten that point.
Now I do know that they're part of the horror-movie formula, but I'd seen Scream 2 first, and while I was watching this I kept recognising elements from it.
