I have thing's to say, if this was real you would have thought Sigourney's charcter would have thrown out that red dress that ended up on her bed, seeing as she could not leave the house she would have thrown out maybe for bad memories. When she was in the house and she he was in there to she should have least turned the lights on. This film gives cop's a bad view also.

I think she kept it for the same reason many of us keep reminders of horrible things... to prick the wound. Mainly, i think, it was a way of communicating the paranoia of the situation to the audience... you see... Directors and screenwriters employee these things called "devices" whenever they need to move a plot along or introduce a new element. Fictional characters, while they have their own "will" and personalities, will do things because their god wanted them to,
so in this case... she kept the dress because Ann Biderman and David Madsen and Jon Amiel wanted her to.
