How is this a horror movie?
How is Copycat classed as a horror? Yes, I agree, it's powerfully suspenseful, but what classes it as a horror?

shareErr.. maybe it's meant to be scary? But it wasn't.
Now, if any of you sons of bitches got anything else to say, NOW'S THE FUÇKING TIME!!
There's a difference between the horror and thriller genres. Horror would be The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, and Friday the 13th (just as some examples), while thrillers are more like Copycat, Silence of the Lambs, and The Bone Collector (just to name a few). Horror is intended to be scary, thriller is intended to keep you on the edge of your seat. One is likely to have more "monster" quality, while the other is playing psychological games with you. Does that help?
shareNot really, considering you completely missed the point. LethalK had obviously heard or read that Copycat had been classed as a horror film, and was asking why this was so. Obviously they agreed with your definitions, and therefore couldn't understand how the film was a horror film.
Personally, I don't know. Seemed more like a thriller to me. Not enough gore and/or too much storyline to be a horror film.
Most of the times when a movie is tagged horror it normally means its really only scary if it happens to you in real life....imagine knowing you are a bout to die a slow painful death and looking into your killers eyes and there is nothing you can do thats pure horror now I agree watching the movie it wasn't scary or a horror to me at all i'm just saying if real life events happened to you it would be beyound horror.
I mean lets be honest have you ever seen a "horror" movie that was actually really scary that actually made you scared? I sure haven't and I watch a lot of horror movies.
This isn't horror because it lacks the supernatural element. This is a matter of man vs. man, not man vs. the supernatural/intangible/unknown.

Slashers & stuff are just artistic to me but I'm a bit of a paranoid person & found this movie scary. Just the intense feelings knowing that the guy had been thru her house & not knowing if he's still there & knowing that she is pretty much useless when it comes to defending herself. It was a jolt ride.
Don't wander into abandend churches for Czakyr will grab you from underneath the watery grave.

I found this movie quite scary as opposed to more stereotypical "Horror" movies. I guess it was the combination of torture, suspense etc.
sharewhat makes this movie a horror movie?.....copycat came out in a time where psychologist horror was all the rage....sliance of the lambs, Exocist 3,etc...movies that really messed with your head instead of the blood and guts.
I loved Copycat.....as I did with Lambs and exocist 3...watch it at midnight.....turn out the lights..and unlock all the doors....then say these movies aren't scary.
Yea I loved this film, thrillers are alot scarier than horror, as in thrillers it could actually happen, such as bone collector, being taken in a taxi and never getting home!
shareAgreed;...If the thought of a serial killer on the loose doesn't scare the crap out of you, I don't know what would. My first reaction to watching this was horror! I was horrified that somewhere, some *beep* is watching this and getting 'Ideas' who says movies don't influence real life? HA! People 'Copycat' stuff in movies all the time and THAT type of 'sick' behavior scares the holy crap outta me!
Love & Peace T'
It creeped me out and made me jump in a couple of places, but I would call it a crime thriller.

A horror movie is defined by what reaction it is intended to get from the audience. A horror movie is designed to shock and scare the audience. A thriller has more of a mystery behind it. This movie has both. Which is why both genres are mentioned.
shareThe serial killer, I'm guessing? ;P No, I know what you meant; it is first and foremost a suspenseful, psychological/cerebral thriller as opposed to an outright gory, slashy, or supernatural horror flick. But honestly, most of the time, the two go hand-in-hand. A good horror movie will probably thrill you, and vice versa. I don't know about anybody else, but I'd say that the main characters' situation is pretty danged horrifying. I wouldn't necessarily include this on a list of favorite horror movies, because I do think of it first as being a thriller/murder mystery instead of "horror"-- but I see nothing wrong with overlapping these very closely related genres and classifying it under horror as well.
